17TH CONFERENCE OF EUROPEAN AGRO-ECONOMISTS

Unveiling diversity in Short Food Supply Chains: COREnet’s Insights from the XVIIth European Agro-economists Conference held in Rennes.

Short food supply chains (SFSCs) remain often considered as constituting a homogeneous world. However, the evaluation of their contribution to food system sustainability must take into account the diversity of the underlying development models.

The 17th Conference of European agro-economists which took place in late August 2023, in Rennes (France), was the opportunity for some COREnet partners, in collaboration with researchers from Hungary and Japan, to confront the 6 models identified in France with those observed in 4 other countries: Italy, The Netherlands, Hungary and Poland.

During the Conference,  Yuna Chiffoleau (INRAE) shared some first considerations about similar patterns among these countries, but with important nuances, and variable impacts depending on the organisation of their food systems. This approach opens up interesting avenues for both exchanging experiences within Europe and designing public policies that take better account of the diversity of SFSC models.
