CORENET AT THE EU CAP NETWORK SEMINAR IN WIEN

The EU CAP Network Seminar ‘Skills and lifelong learning for agricultural advisory and training service providers’ took place in Wien from the 21st to the 22nd of February

The EU CAP Network Seminar on ‘Skills and Lifelong Learning for Agricultural Advisory and Training Service Providers’ took place in Vienna from February 21st to 22nd, with participation from various organizations, including the CORENET project represented by Patrick Pasgang (ISP), Christian Jochum (LKO), Aine MackenWalsh (TEAGASC), and Giuseppe Zidda (Campagna Amica).

The seminar focused on exchanging knowledge and identifying best practices for training and advisory services to support lifelong learning across the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS). As emphasized by the participants, “Moving from an obligation to a desire to learn” encapsulates the mindset shift necessary for lifelong learning.

Key objectives included assessing current skill needs crucial for farmers and farm workers, identifying effective training methods, and enhancing the quality of training for agricultural stakeholders.

Furthermore, the importance of social skills in knowledge transfer was underscored throughout the event. It was noted that while technology plays a supporting role, “‘Social skills’ seem to be one of the most important factors for knowledge transfer. Technology will only help.”

The seminar brought together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including advisors, training providers, vocational education organizations, managing authorities, innovation brokers, farmer and forester organizations, researchers, and EU-funded project representatives, all aligned with the seminar’s overarching theme.
