CORENET STORIES: HOW MAGOSVöLGY WAY OF FARMING PUTS PEOPLE AND SOIL AT HEART

In Terény, Hungary, the Seeds Valley team builds a thriving short food supply chain with 160 households

In Terény, a small Hungarian village north of Budapest, MagosVölgy Ecological Farm has been named a Golden Case in the EU project COREnet for its exemplary short food supply chain model.

As explained by Zoltan Dezseny, the farm, also known as Seeds Valley, feeds 160 households through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Members share the harvest from March to December and, in return, provide financial support to the farm’s operations. This model ensures both food security for the community and economic stability for the farmers.

On less than half a hectare, the farm produces over 40 vegetable species and 120 varieties using agroecological methods: no tractors, minimal soil disturbance, permanent beds, and compost-based fertilization. This approach preserves soil health, boosts biodiversity, and demonstrates how human-scale farming can thrive sustainably.

By combining ecological production with strong community ties, MagosVölgy shows how local agriculture can reconnect urban and rural communities while reducing dependence on conventional food chains.
